Former FBI chief James the former director has denied the charges to giving untrue testimony to lawmakers and obstructing a lawmaking procedure.

His legal representative filed the plea representing him in a federal court in Alexandria, Virginia on mid-week.

The defense lawyer stated he would try to have the legal matter terminated for multiple factors including that his the accused, a detractor of President Donald Trump, was being singled out.

The former director was formally accused shortly after the former president urged his chief prosecutor to take action against him.

Legal Proceedings

In court on Wednesday, the defense counsel the legal representative told the court they planned to present multiple petitions to dismiss the legal matter before a court case, claiming the government's case was vindictive and that a US attorney was improperly assigned to handle the proceedings.

James Comey's proceedings was initially managed by Erik Siebert, who stepped down under scrutiny from the former president after his examination into an additional opponent - NY AG Letitia James - failed to bring criminal charges.

Courtroom Atmosphere

Mr Comey seemed in positive mood as he walked into the court on mid-week, chatting with his lawyers and being lighthearted. He was joined by his spouse, Patrice Failor and daughter his daughter, a US lawyer who the previous administration dismissed.

Following the reading to the judge read his rights and the two counts against him in the courtroom on Wednesday, Mr Comey was questioned if he comprehended the charges.

"I do your honour. Thank you very much," he stated to the court.

Previous Events

The former director was the head of the FBI from four years and was fired about four months into the former president's first term as national leader. At the period, the director was overseeing an investigation into international campaign influence and whether there were any relationships between Russia and the presidential campaign.

During his tenure, Mr Comey sparked a negative reaction from the Democratic party when he declared just days before the 2016 presidential election that he was probing presidential nominee Hillary Clinton's use of a non-governmental email account. Indictments against Hillary Clinton were not pursued, leading to criticism from Republicans as well.

Current Allegations

Government attorneys assert James Comey lied to Congress during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing in September 2020 when he was being interrogated about both the Clinton investigation as well as the foreign influence inquiry. They allege he provided false information to the upper house by stating he had not approved an individual at the FBI to release to news outlets details about the government examinations.

Legal representatives also charge James Comey of "improperly attempting to sway, hinder and slow" the legislative group by giving misleading testimony to it.

Via social media Mr Comey shared to his online platform after he was accused, he stated he was innocent and charged Donald Trump of behaving like a "tyrant".

"Our household have known for a long time that there are ramifications to opposing the former president," he commented. "We refuse to live on our bended knee."
"I am not guilty," he added. "Thus initiate a legal proceeding."

The charges against Mr Comey emerged after the former president published on social media insisting on his top legal official, Ms Bondi, prosecute James Comey and additional individuals.
